Super sexy fashion model David James Gandy was born in Billericay, Essex, England on 19th February 1980 to English parents and entrepreneurs who run a freight company and have been property developers for over 10 years.
Growing up David was bullied at school for not being very fashionable and having a slight speech Impediment. After David graduated from the University Of Gloucestershire in 2001, his mates secretly entered him into a male model competition on Richard and Judy’s This Morning TV show. Despite the self-confessed “petrol-head” getting his dream summer job at car mag Auto Express, David won and landed a contract with top agency Select Model Management. His first five years as a model were not entirely successful. There were endless castings for catwalk shows and rejections, before his career took off.
David then signed with Public Image Worldwide, modelling mostly for catalogue work in the UK market.
He really hit the big-time when Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana selected him to front their campaign for the new fragrance Light Blue Pour Homme.
He has appeared in numerous campaigns and catwalk shows for the luxury brand and has worked with supermodels such as Gemma Ward and Naomi Campbell. His advert with Dolce & Gabbana's fragrance "Light Blue" had 11 million online hits and he saw a 50 ft poster of him grace Times Square. He also modelled for the luxury brand's 2008 calendar, shot by top photographer, Mariano Vivanco. David is also the face of the second Light Blue fragrance campaign for 2010.
Other campaigns he's worked for include 7 for All Mankind, Shiatzy Chen, Zara, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Stefanel. He also appeared on covers for VMan and L’Optimum and editorials for Harper's Bazaar and Spanish Glamour. Renowned photographers who have shot David include Mario Testino and Steven Meisel.
On 26 June 2009, Forbes Magazine ranked him as the world's third most successful male model, behind Matt Gordon and Sean O'Pry.
David was interviewed on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross which was aired on 30 April 2010. In August 2010 it was reported he had begun an acting career by making a short film with Helena Christensen.
David currently writes a blog for Vogue where he discusses his modelling and extra-curricular work such as his love for cars.
He is signed to DNA Model Management in New York City and to Select Model Management in London.
